Theatre, Film and TV

Heather has been a writer for twenty years, working on numerous shows and collaborations.  Most recently she was nominated as part of the ensemble that wrote, sound designed, and performed, A Tonic For Desperate TImes (Theatre Gargantua).

Heather was playwright in residence for Factory Theatre and Mixed Company Theatre, each of whom later produced her shows, Morro and Jasp: 9-5 (co-written with Amy Lee), and  A Fine Line (which toured high schools throughout the GTA). She was part of the Thundering Voices program (Native Earth) where she developed her show, Walking Forward, Facing Back (Weesageechak Festival). She has also written several shows commissioned for YA and community audiences. 

 

Heather has co-written The Morro and Jasp Series ( with Amy Lee) which includes ten full-length shows, including: Save The Date (Top Ten Productions of the Year - NOW, Official selection Best of Fest) and Of Mice and Morro and Jasp (Top Ten of the Globe and Mail, nom. for Canadian Comedy Award). The duo also co-wrote two Morro and Jasp short films, Behind the Nose, Rise and Shine, a television pilot, The End is Nigh, a web-pilot, Real Live Clowns, as well as numerous comedy shorts available online. Heather was also a lead writer on other U.N.I.T. Productions projects including, the  storytelling video game, Unscripted (Official selection of Different Games), and comedy cookbook, Eat Your Heart Out (Published by Tightrope Books).

Currently, Heather is co-writing a mockumentary feature, called Pitch Invaders, which in production.  Her web-series, The Supers, The Stoners, and The Big Bad (co-written with Dana Fradkin, Produced by Bell), was nominated for Best Web Series at the London International Web and Short Film Festival.

Heather has also written and published several articles and academic writings, including, "The Story of Turtle Dove” in the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education, her article "Tricky Medicine" in The Empire of Nature and The Nature of Empires, and was a contributor to "Common Plants: Cross pollination in hybrid reality" Blog project with Judith Rudakoff (York University).

 

She has a BFA in Theatre, and  Masters in Environmental Studies (with a focus on Theatre for Social and Environmental Awareness), both from York University.
